A greeting from Ruth Nyambura, who joined the Hands Off Mother Earth Campaign as coordinator this summer. Ruth is a feminist political ecologist whose recent work has focused on the food movement and the history of the women’s movement. She is a member of the African Ecofeminist Collective and brings a wealth of organizing experience, analysis and perspective to the campaign.
Greetings,
My name is Ruth Nyambura and I’m an Ecofeminist based in Nairobi, Kenya. For the last decade I have worked as a researcher on the intersections of ecological justice in Africa. My work and activism uses a feminist political ecology lens to critically engage with the continent’s and global food systems, challenging neoliberal models of agrarian transformation and amplifying the revolutionary work of small-holder farmers of Africa—the majority of whom are women—as well as rural agrarian movements offering concrete anti-capitalist alternatives to the ecological, economic and democratic crisis facing the continent.
As of July, I have been working as the campaign coordinator for the Hands off Mother Earth (HOME) – working with grassroots movements and civil society from across the world to continue challenging geongineering technologies and other false solutions to the climate crises. In the coming months you will be hearing more from the campaign as we have planned a series of exciting new initiatives, such as several global teach-ins on various
intersections of geoengineering, as well as a monthly podcast further delving into these issues.
I look forward to hearing from you and working with all of you!
Nyambura
